MINOT, ND (KXNET) — We can all get a little stir-crazy during the winter when we are stuck at home, but there's something you can do. Professionals at the Minot YMCA have some recommendations when you're home and conditions outside are less than favorable. Healthy Living Director, Russell Gust, says folks should start developing a routine in the winter including the physical activity of 10 minutes of walking, both inside and outside the home, or just doing 10 pushups in the morning. Stay healthy with supplements and lifestyle changes However, according to the Mental Health Foundation, participating in non-physical activities like virtual art classes has been proven to benefit mental health during the winter. Gust says finding some kind of activity in the cold months when you're indoors can go a long way in improving your health. "Doing some type of activity in the wintertime is going to be really important to help curb symptoms that go along with Seasonal Affective Disorder and so you just need to do a little research, do a little experience trial and error, find something that's going to work for you that you're going to stick with," said Gust.
