LINCOLN–(KFOR Nov. 21)–The mother of a 22-month-old Lincoln toddler, who died in March 2023 from injuries due to child abuse, has been sentenced to a total of 95 years to life in prison.
On Thursday, 32-year-old Brittany Cook of Lincoln was sentenced for count one of intentional child abuse resulting in death, count two of intentional child abuse resulting in bodily injury and count three for possession with intent to deliver. Cook’s son was brought to CHI St. Elizabeth with bruises on his head and face and injuries to his chest and genitals, along with a broken leg. The child was life-flighted to Children’s Hospital in Omaha, where he died on Mar. 17, 2023.
The injuries to the child happened after Cook started a relationship with 33-year-old Joshua Tackett, who was found guilty in July on two counts, committing child abuse intentionally causing death and distribution of a controlled substance near a school. He was sentenced in October to 85 years to life in prison.
Cook was convicted for her role in her child’s death in September.
