Beginning Nov. 23, Lake Metroparks Penitentiary Glen Reservation will host the magic and whimsy of “Candy Land: It’s Wild in Ohio!” Attendees will be able to journey through this life-sized gameboard and discover colorful habitats — like forests, fields and wetlands—as well as enchanting animal displays at every turn, according to a news release. The path also features a playset from Playground World. Guests also can enjoy hot chocolate in Snowshoe Lodge, shop for unique nature-themed gifts in The Nature Store, and participate in crafts, scavenger hunts, and other interactive exhibits as well. “This is a much-loved holiday tradition, and we see families come back year after year to enjoy the exhibit,” Lake Metroparks Deputy Chief of Outdoor Connections Caitlin Ambrose stated in the release. “This year, we’re excited to expand the theme to feature different types of animals rather than just birds, as we’ve done in years past. We hope visitors will leave with a newfound excitement for the many unique and colorful species we have in Ohio.” The exhibit will also include special Wild Weekends programs. Each Saturday, attendees can enjoy an outdoor campfire with s’mores from noon to 3 p.m. and animal chats at 11 a.m.,  and 1 and 3 p.m., the release stated. On Sundays, people can experience meet-the-keeper chats in the Wildlife Yard at 11 a.m., and 1 and 3 p.m. “Candy Land: It’s Wild in Ohio!” is open Nov. 23 through Jan. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at Penitentiary Glen Nature Center, 8668 Kirtland Chardon Road in Kirtland. The Nature Center is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Admission is free for all ages and registration is not required. Additional information can be found at goto.lakemetroparks.com/candyland.
