Springfield man died after officerinvolved shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield man has died after an officer-involved shooting on Lyman Street overnight Thursday.
Officers were called to the area of the 0-100 block of Lyman Street at around 1 a.m. Upon arrival, officers located a 24-year-old man from Springfield in an apartment building's doorway allegedly with two firearms.

Due to the circumstances, Hampden District Attorney's Office Spokesperson Elijah Ayers told 22News that two officers fired their service pistol, one officer striking and wounding him.
The officers rendered medical aid and was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The shooting victim's identity has not been released.
The investigation is being conducted by the Hampden District Attorney’s Office and the Springfield Police Department’s Detective Bureau.
A news conference is scheduled to be held at 2 p.m. with Police Superintendent Lawrence Akers and Mayor Domenic Sarno. 22News will provide a live stream in the video player above.
