Shafter Police Chief Kevin Zimmermann resigns from department

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Shafter Police Chief Kevin Zimmermann resigned from his role at the department, city officials said through a news release Wednesday.
Zimmermann had been with Shafter police department for eight years, joining the department back in Sept. 2016.
Brief midweek warm up before wet weekend arrives
City officials said Zimmerman voluntarily stepped down as chief.
Shafter Mayor Chad Givens said Zimmermann's dedication to the department is greatly appreciated. "He has worked tirelessly to strengthen the Shafter Police Department and improve public safety. The City is grateful for his service and commitment and wishes him the best in his future endeavors."
Acting police Chief Randy Milligan, who has been working with the department for 26 years, will continue as interim chief.
