Juvenile caught with fake gun near Oshkosh West High School, police urge caution on replica firearms

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) - Oshkosh Police responded to a report of an individual potentially carrying a firearm in the 300 block of N Eagle Street.
According to a press release from the Oshkosh Police, an anonymous tip received at 3:23 PM on Tuesday, November 19, prompted officers to respond swiftly to the scene.

The release states that the nearby Oshkosh West High School was alerted, and the School Resource Officer was involved as a precaution. Police reportedly spotted the individual near a church, but the subject fled through residential yards. Oshkosh Police officers located and detained the person about a block away.
The police department also says that a search of the area revealed a hidden facsimile firearm resembling a real weapon. Following the investigation, a juvenile from Oshkosh was referred to the juvenile justice system on charges of Disorderly Conduct and Restrictions on the Use of Facsimile Firearms.
Authorities confirmed there was no specific threat to any individual or location. However, the Oshkosh Police Department is issuing a strong reminder to parents about the dangers of replica firearms.
