Man arrested for attempted abduction, rape on WOD Trail in Herndon

HERNDON, Va. (DC News Now) -- Herndon police arrested a man for an attempted abduction and rape on the W&OD Trail on Monday evening.
The Herndon Police Department (HPD) said that Denis Humberto Navarette Romero was charged with abduction with intent to defile and rape.
Around 8:50 p.m. Monday, HPD got a call from a passerby about a woman who said she was raped.

Police said that the incident happened between Ferndale Avenue and Grace Street. The victim was walking along the W&OD Trail when the suspect allegedly approached her, grabbed her and forced her to the ground.
He then raped her, but she was able to fight him off and run away, according to police.
She found the passerby on the trail, who helped her call 911.
After interviewing the victim and other witnesses, HPD officers found Navarette Romero minutes later and identified him as the suspect. Police said that he had some of the victim's property as well.
He is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
