City Council to vote on downtown paid parking plan Tuesday
Nov 18, 2024
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW)—After months of discussion, Wichita City Council members are preparing to vote on paid downtown parking.
The City has introduced five plans. The first three include different options to increase fees, add parking spaces, and have paid parking exceptions for some events and locations. The fourth keeps everything the same.
The fifth introduces a "phased approach." In 2025, the City would focus on better maintenance and higher rates in lots and garages, and in 2026, parking meters would be put up in the downtown core.
The biggest concern amongst the public is that businesses will suffer when people have to pay to park.
