RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia has continued a multi-year trend in 2024 of being ranked highly in terms of hospital patient safety.
According to the Fall 2024 Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Grades, the state of Virginia was ranked second in the nation for its hospital safety scores, which are based on the percentage of hospitals within each state that have A grades.
The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA) announced the rankings recently, listing that 57.7% of Virginia hospitals earned "A" grades.
These fall rankings come after Virginia has been ranked highly throughout the past several years, seeing a second-place ranking throughout 2022 and 2023, and staying in the top seven states since 2018.
Several hospitals local to the Richmond area received "A" grades, including:
Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center
Henrico Doctors’ Hospital (HCA Virginia)
Parham Doctors’ Hospital (HCA Virginia)
Retreat Doctors’ Hospital (HCA Virginia)
VCU Medical Center
