NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — Officials say the North Attleborough Town Hall was evacuated Monday afternoon after an unidentified military ordinance was dropped off at the building.
Around 12:45, fire and police were sent to Town Hall on Washington Street to secure an unidentified military ordinance that a resident dropped off at the Veterans’ Service Office.
Due to the nature of the military ordinance being unknown, the Town Hall was evacuated.
The Community School on Washington Street was evacuated as well due to the proximity to Town Hall.
The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad said the unidentified military ordinance was not live and not a threat to the public, according to Fire Chief Christopher Coleman.
According to officials, the device was removed from the premises safely, and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad will dispose of the military ordinance.
There is no threat to the public and nobody was injured.
Further investigation determined the resident “had no malicious intent” and did not know how to properly surrender the unidentified object.
The scene was cleared at 1:36 p.m.
Fire Chief Coleman said he advises individuals who have found unidentified military ordinances to leave them where they were found, untouched, and call 911.
