'Wicked' parties, celebrations, specials across DC, Maryland, Virginia

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- You may have heard about this big Hollywood offering -- Wicked? It seems a ton of people are talking about it.
We kid.
More than 20 years after the musical debuted on Broadway, the story that follows the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch before most of us came to know them in The Wizard of Oz, is in theatres.
This is one of those occasions for which a movie release goes beyond the film, itself, with people and businesses making it a full-on experience.
Here are some of the events and specials centered around Wicked.

A Night in Oz: A Wicked Celebration with Live Music and Cocktails
Nov. 22, 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
metrobar DC, 640 Rhode Island Ave. NE
Metrobar DC invites people to a "magical evening" that inlcudes the music of Black Passion Band, cocktails, and "a touch of Oz."
Wicked "Green with Envy"
Nov. 23, 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Wunder Garten, 1101 First St. NE
Wunder Garten teamed up with Absolut vodka to celebrate the premiere of Wicked with "enchanting" cocktails, themed decor, and giveaways "all inspired by the charm of Oz."
Admission is free. You can reserve a spot here.
Wunder Garten had an earlier celebration on Nov. 16 called Wicked "Welcome to Oz!"
Wicked Drag Brunch at City Tap Dupont
Dec. 7 and 8, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
City Tap Dupont, 1250 Connecticut Ave. NW, Suite 105
Crystal Edge and her queens get Wicked for this movie-themed brunch at City Tap Dupont. The event's site says the dress code is pink or green, encourageing people to "show out" and represent their true Glinda or Elphaba.
Tickets for brunch are $48. You pay when you attend, but you can reserve your spot here. You also will find more information about the brunch, including its menu.

Wonderful Wicked Oz Trivia with CapCity Trivia
Dec. 3, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Collective Offshore, 10221 Wincopin Circle, Columbia
If you're looking for something competitive with an Emerald City homage rolled into it, The Collective Offshore offers Wonderful Wicked Oz Trivia with CapCity Trivia as part of its ongoing trivia series that takes place Tuesday nights. The restaurant's event venue Encore plays host to the evening.
Downtown Holiday Market moves, renamed DC Holiday Market; new one takes its place

Let's Get Wicked!
Nov. 23, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Lost Boy Cider, 317 Hooffs Run Dr., Alexandria
Lost Boy Cider hosts a Wicked-themed party called Let's Get Wicked!. The cidery's website says: "As you enter the cidery, follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City where your wildest dreams come true! Don’t worry, we couldn’t get a permit for flying monkeys."
The event includes a make your own wand station and features the business' Defying Gravity cider special which it says, in part, is "green" and "sparkly."
The cover band Moondaddies is scheduled to perform and to include songs from the musical.
Lost Boy encouraged people to wear their best movie-inspired costume for a chance to win a six-pack of cider.

Wicked Movie Party
Nov. 27, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
AMC Shirlington 7, 2772 S. Randolph St., Arlington
The AMC Theatres location in Shirlington invites people to watch the film and be part of a "Wickedly Magic Raffle" with prizes that include:
A dazzling Glinda Stanley cup
Exclusive Starbucks cups
Other "spellbinding Wicked-inspired gifts"
The raffle entry is included with your movie ticket purchase. The theatre will announce winners after the film.
