Woman dead after officerinvolved shooting at Frankfort gas station at I65 exit

FRANKFORT, Ind. — One woman is dead after a shooting involving police officers occurred at a BP gas station at the exit of Interstate 65 and State Road 28 near Frankfort.
State police originally warned the public to avoid the area as police amassed at the gas station with State Road 28 being closed due to police activity.

Initial reports indicated that shots were fired after an encounter between state troopers and a woman. State police later confirmed that "at least one shot" was fired during the encounter.
The woman at the center of the police response was later confirmed to be deceased. Police have not said if the woman was shot by officers during the encounter or died from other means.
State police did confirm the incident began on the interstate before the woman led state troopers to the gas station.
There is no ongoing threat to the public and State Road 28 has reopened.
At this time, no additional information has been provided by state police.
