Former ENSC athletic director arrested after stealing $11k in mileage reimbursements

NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- Former East Noble School Corporation athletic director has been arrested after the school demanded he repay nearly $11,000 after forging mileage usage.
Nicholas David, was arrested Nov. 13 on one count of theft where value of property is between $750 & $50k, a Level 6 felony and one count of official misconduct def., a public servant, knowingly or intentionally commits, a Level 6 felony.
David was initially investigated by the school and put on administrative leave in Oct. 2023 when the school corporation discovered he had been faking mileage usage. David had forged nearly $5,000 in mileage reimbursements he received during his employment. The investigation completed by the Indiana State Board of Accounts showed that David had requested and received mileage reimbursements for the following instances:
Sporting events that were canceled
Sporting events that the high school did not have a team competing
Sporting events and meetings that did not occur
Home games
Sporting events during times when David was at the high school
Meetings that were not on record
Trips to Sam’s Club where no purchases were made
As a result of the investigation, David later resigned resulting in the school seeking not only reimbursement of the mileage but the over $5,000 cost of the investigation done.
David was released on bond from the Noble County Jail. He has a pretrial conference set for January of next year.
