APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - Nearly 1,000 runners and walkers gathered for the Girls on the Run Fall Celebration 5K on Saturday, at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton. According to a press release from Girls on the Run, the event included 440 participants, family and friends who participated as running buddies, over 100 coaches, and volunteers who helped make the 5k day a success. The celebration capped off a ten-week program designed for kids from grades 3-8. The program is focused on building confidence, and peer connections, and encouraging community service. Youth from 29 teams across nine counties in Northeast Wisconsin participated alongside community members, families, and friends. Brillion High School students put on holiday favorite, ‘Elf the Musical’ through Center Stage Program Presented by Children’s Wisconsin, the 5K raised funds to support the organization’s financial assistance program, ensuring accessibility for all participants. Girls on the Run is a nationally recognized program that empowers youth through movement and meaningful lessons, providing an inclusive and supportive environment for personal growth.
