Blandford man dies in kayaking accident on Lower Mill Pond

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - A 25-year-old Blandford man drowned Saturday while kayaking on Lower Mill Pond in Easthampton.
According to the Northwestern DA's Office, Easthampton emergency services received a 911 call at 2:45 p.m. reporting a kayaker in distress. Witnesses told authorities that two people entered the water in an attempt to save the man but were unable to reach him.
The Hampden County Regional Dive Team and Massachusetts State Police Dive Team worked to recover the man, who was found dead at 5:15 p.m. Another kayaker who was with him at the time of the incident was not injured.
Authorities do not suspect foul play, but the cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The investigation remains ongoing.
