Lennox claims 11A title, snaps 42 year drought

VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO) -- The Lennox football team snapped a 42 year championship drought with a 14-6 win over Sioux Falls Christian in the 11A state championship on Saturday.
The win marks the second state championship in program history.
Quarterback Boston Katzer was named the game's Outstanding Back and Joe Robbie MVP. Nate Haar was named the game's outstanding lineman.
THE GAME
Scoring didn't come easy in the game on Saturday as the Chargers scored just once and Lennox just twice.
There was plenty of movement in the turnover game. SFC lost two fumbles and four interceptions, while Lennox lost two interceptions.
The Orioles had two good drives in the first half stall on interceptions.
Sioux Falls Christian struggled to move the ball until late in the first half. A halfback pass from Brayden Witte to Cole Snyder gave the Chargers a 6-0 halftime lead.
Lennox would get on the board in the third quarter. Katzer completed a 30 yard touchdown pass to Drake Mikkelsen to convert a fourth and ten.
Katzer would collect an interception on defense and back to work went the Orioles on offense.
Boston found Chase Faulds for a 14 yard score to convert yet another fourth down and give Lennox a 14-6 lead.
From there, the Lennox defense did their job. The Orioles forced five of their six takeaways in the second half, including a Ramsey Williams interception to seal the win.
THE NUMBERS
Sioux Falls Christian rushed for just nine yards and threw for just 143. Lennox totaled 390 yards on the day, including 203 rushing and 187 passing.
Williams led the ground attack for Lennox with 83 rushing yards. Tate Gerdes added 68 yards.
Boston Katzer threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Mikkelsen had five catches for 56 yards and a score.
