OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Oklahoma City Utilities Department has expanded the the type of storm debris that will be collected by the City starting Monday, following the tornadoes that devastated the area on November 3 in Southeast Oklahoma City. City officials say residential trash customers who are in the designated collection areas can place their storm debris at the curb to be collected, which includes construction materials, tree and limbs that are cut into lengths of 10 feet or shorter, and fencing. Any items that can easily be broken into pieces will not be accepted as they are too small for the machinery to collect. There will be two rounds of storm debris pick up, with the first round beginning Monday, November 18 and will go until the first week of December. The second round of storm debris pick up will be complete by early January. Collection will start near SE 89th and Sooner Road and will move on to SE 59th and Triple X. Both areas will be passed through and collected twice, repeating the process for the second pass through. The City of OKC says they will reduce any disruption on Thanksgiving by stopping the collection of storm debris by noon on Wednesday, November 27. Collection efforts will continue on Monday, December 2. Crews will not be picking up debris from December 24 through December 26 and will announce updates on further timing. Those who are in the designated areas, but did not sustain storm damage, will be able to place bulky waste curbside during the first and second passing of storm debris pick up. Regular bulky waste pickup guidelines will remain the same and standard collection fees will apply for any pile that is greater than 4 cubic yards. Hazardous Material Any product that is considered hazardous including, pool chemicals, motor oil, gasoline, antifreeze and pesticides, should only be disposed of by taking it to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center. Freon-containing Items Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners or any appliance that holds Freon will not be picked up during the storm debris collection. Customers must call Utilities Customer Service at 405-297-2833 to request those related items be collected. Those items will then be picked up for a separate collection.
