Crews called to another brush fire in Cumberland
Nov 15, 2024
CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WPRI) — For the second Friday in a row, firefighters from Cumberland and other surrounding towns responded to a brush fire near the state line.
Cumberland Fire Capt. Craig Emerson told 12 News the call came in around 2:40 p.m. for a fire in the woods near Mount Calvary Cemetery off Curran Road. It's the same location where a brush fire broke out last Friday, Nov. 8.
Emerson said crews have contained the fire, but remained on scene to wet down the area and look for any remaining hot spots.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is unclear at this time.
Fire weather forecast: What’s the risk level right now?
Last Thursday, Nov. 7, Cumberland firefighters also knocked down a brush fire that burned more than five acres of land in the woods off Nate Whipple Highway and Old Staples Road.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect for all of Southern New England due to the high risk of brush fires, which can quickly spread because of the dry and breezy conditions.
People are urged not to do any outdoor burning and to be careful when discarding cigarettes.
The current forecast doesn't call for any significant rain in the coming days.
