RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond City School Board has reviewed the completed facility assessments at two schools, which show that nearly $3 million in repairs are needed.
The Richmond City School Board reviewed the final Facility Condition Assessment Report -- highlighting several expensive repairs needed at John Marshall High School and Woodville Elementary School -- at a meeting on Monday, Nov. 11.
At John Marshall, the report details a snapshot of immediate needs. This included nearly $3 million to replace a broken brick wall, $7,300 to replace an air compressor and $6,600 in total to replace several pieces of kitchen equipment.
Additionally, the report said the glazing on a majority of John Marshall's windows is in poor condition. Replacing it is estimated to cost nearly $530,000 and this is expected to be completed in 2025.
At Woodville Elementary School, the report listed $15,400 to replace the finish and wallpaper on cafeteria walls and $7,000 for engineering and structural design throughout the building.
The report also estimated that $81,600 is needed for Woodville's foundation system located on the library side of the building, as well as $40,000 for the school's generator, which is described to be in poor condition. Both of these issues are expected to be fixed in 2025.
Assessment reports are being conducted for all schools, which will be uploaded to the district's website by Dec. 1, according to Richmond Public Schools.
Once all of the reports are completed, an operations team will convene with Richmond Schools stakeholders. It will meet quarterly and develop a plan for the next 10 years using information outlined in the assessments.
According to Richmond Schools, the administration will then present a draft of the plan for the School Board's consideration in the fall of 2025.
