BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- A Baton Rouge man was sentenced to 30 years in prison in connection to a deadly shooting at a local car wash in 2022.
Kamayrion Glasper, 22, was found guilty by a jury in August of charges of aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal use of gun crime violence, manslaughter and attempted manslaughter.
The shooting that left Richard Eackles Sr., 27, dead happened around 1 p.m. June 23, 2022, at Benny's Express Car Wash on Perkins Road. According to police, another man and two children were inside the victim's car during the shooting.
Glasper told detectives that the man in Eackles' car was someone he had a prior altercation with. According to an affidavit, Glasper claimed the man started firing shots at him as he tried to leave and reportedly admitted to firing back. Glasper was left with minor injuries.
Investigators determined through surveillance videos and witness statements that Glasper initiated the shooting and fatally shot Eackles. Officers initially arrested him on charges of one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
