NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Two people were sent to the hospital after a rollover accident in New Bedford yesterday.
According to officials, the New Bedford Fire Department was called to a motor vehicle crash on Route 195E just before 4 p.m.
Police and fire encountered a gas cylinder delivery truck on scene, which had overturned on top of a vehicle containing two trapped victims.
Officials said the delivery truck contained oxygen, acetylene, argon, nitrogen, and LPG cylinders. Many of the cylinders remained secured on the delivery truck, while numerous cylinders were strewn across the highway.
Two adult occupants were trapped in the vehicle and required extrication.
Fire personnel had to gain access to the vehicle by cutting away sections of the steel storage racks and extricating the patients.
Both individuals were transported to St. Luke’s Emergency Department.
The delivery truck driver was evaluated at the scene.
According to officials, the welding supply company dispatched another delivery truck to retrieve the cylinders remaining on the truck, along with the ones displaced during the accident.
Drivers were diverted to Route 140, and Route 140 to I-195 North was also shut down.
