Nov 14, 2024
(KTLA) -- Federal rebates to help California homeowners save money on energy bills are now available.
On Thursday, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that “income-qualified, single-family homeowners could be eligible to receive rebates of up to $8,000 to reduce the cost of purchasing and installing a new, energy-efficient home heating and cooling heat pump.”
Homeowners with household incomes between 80% and 150% of the area median income (AMI) will be eligible for up to $4,000. Those with incomes less than 80% AMI will be eligible for up to $8,000.

The program is part of the state’s broader effort to decarbonize its buildings, which primarily rely on fossil gas for temperature control and cooking, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make homes more resilient to climate change.
“Thousands of dollars are now available for California homeowners to install heat pumps, making your home more energy-efficient and reducing your energy bills by hundreds of dollars each year,” Newsom said in a statement. With these new rebates made possible by the Biden-Harris administration, Californians can save money and take real climate action.”
