WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- Wichita has been selected for a second year to host the USA Lacrosse Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates 2024 National Championship. It will be held from May 7 through May 10 at the SCHEELS Stryker Sports Complex in northeast Wichita and hosted by Visit Wichita. “We’re thrilled to be coming back to Wichita for the 2025 WCLA National Championship,” says Kristy Nutt, director of events at USA Lacrosse, in a news release. “Last year, the feedback from our WCLA players was overwhelmingly positive, and the local lacrosse community truly made us feel at home. The SCHEELS Stryker Sports Complex was an amazing venue for the tournament, and we can't wait to give our players, coaches, and fans another incredible experience in 2025!” The WCLA comprises Nearly 150 non-varsity collegiate teams competing under the USA Lacrosse umbrella. The Division I and Division II National Championships will feature 16 Division I clubs and 12 Division II teams. 4,000 turkeys donated to Kansas Food Bank UCLA won the Division I championship, and Vermont the Division II championship at last year's championship in Wichita. Jared Bruner, the co-director of the Wichita Youth Lacrosse Association, says last year's event brought a lot of local support and interest in the sport. "After the WCLA National Championships came to Wichita last May, we saw tremendous growth locally with the girls' game. Having the national championship returning again in 2025 allows Wichita's young athletes to witness, in-person, amazing world-class women's athletics and get motivated to play North America's oldest team sport." “The WCLA is an integral part of our USA Lacrosse family, and the great level of competition that we have annually witnessed at the National Championship truly demonstrates the commitment of these collegiate athletes and their enthusiasm for lacrosse,” says Caitlin Kelley, senior director for sports administration at USA Lacrosse.
