GAHANNA, Ohio (WCMH) – Although a Columbus-based Tex-Mex chain recently shuttered its Gahanna restaurant, a new eatery has already moved into the space and is keeping fan-favorite menu items. Local Cantina closed down its 101 Mill St. restaurant on Nov. 5. The chain has faced two other central Ohio closures this year, including its Short North and Westerville restaurants. The group that owns Local Cantina, Orange Umbrella Restaurants, provided NBC4 with a statement about the Gahanna closure, in which it said the company is focusing on expanding another restaurant in its portfolio called Bendi Wok N Bar. “It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to our Gahanna location, but we’re genuinely excited about this new phase,” said George Tanchevski, the owner of the restaurant group. The Mill Street restaurant is now under new ownership and has been renamed Cantina Sports Bar and Grill. The eatery opened within days of Local Cantina's closure; however, it is still undergoing changes and updates. The new restaurant's owner told NBC4 he plans to keep multiple features from Local Cantina, including a similar menu, Taco Tuesdays and a family-friendly atmosphere. An official grand opening will be held later this month, and updates about the eatery can be found on its Facebook page.   Local Cantina still has 11 locations across central Ohio, as well as one in Dayton and one in Florida, according to its website.
