OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A man was arrested Thursday after a stand off in the middle of a busy Northwest Oklahoma City street. Oklahoma City police officers said the driver refused to pull over, turning what was supposed to be a normal traffic stop into a stand off. PREVIOUS COVERAGE: UPDATE: One in custody after OKC Police respond to incident in NW OKC "I was worried in here that they were going to start shooting. I didn't want to obviously see a man die," said Savannah Dean, who works nearby. There was heavy police presence on Britton Road and Waverly as police officers attempted to stop the driver of a red car. "A customer came in saying that they tried to get him to pull over and he wouldn't. They started yelling at him over the intercom and he put his hands out the window and he just wouldn't pull over. He just like he never put the car in park," said Dean. Police said the driver eventually began to slow roll, but still would not get out the car. "They all pulled several different kinds of guns out and were just pointing them at him. And he just wouldn't get out of the car. He said that he didn't care if they shot at him or not," said Dean. Officers talked back and forth with the driver for several minutes before he finally surrendered, coming out with his hands in the air and was taken into custody. Employee's at nearby businesses said these situations are rare. "It's usually pretty calm here at the laundromat. That's the biggest thing that's happened in a while," said Shawn McCarthy, who works nearby. Police said the man was recently released from jail and was driving without a license. As of right now, they haven't released his identity.
