A Connecticut man was pulled over Thursday on suspicion of driving under the influence for the second time this week on the same Hartford interstate. Connecticut State Police said an officer was patrolling I-91 southbound near Hartford with their cruise lights activated when they were passed around 7 a.m. by a black pickup truck that was swerving between lanes. “The Trooper observed that the pickup was continuing to accelerate and moving erratically across the lanes, from left to right, nearly colliding with other vehicles,” according to a police report. The driver, identified as 54-year-old Anthony Benvenuto of Enfield, was pulled over near Exit 33 and given two field sobriety tests, both of which he failed. He told cops he had not consumed any drugs or alcohol prior to getting behind the wheel. Officers quickly learned Benvenuto had been arrested for DUI just four days earlier, “in the same area of I-91 southbound,” police said. He also had a prior DUI on his record before this week’s arrests and was driving on a suspended license, according to cops. Benvenuto was held on $25,000 bond and faces charges including driving under the influence with a suspended license and no proof of insurance. He’s expected to appear in court Friday.
