SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Take a dog on an adventure and help them get adopted. That's the goal of the San Diego Humane Society's Dog Day Out Program, which is now being expanded across the region. The program is now available at all campuses, including El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside and San Diego. It's simple: those in the community can take adoptable dogs out of shelters for a few hours, all while providing them a much-needed break from the facilities. "By taking a dog out, you help them burn off energy, meet potential adopters and gather insights that will help them find a loving home faster," a spokesperson for the Humane Society explained. "Participants can choose activities like hiking, beach walks or simply relaxing at home, all while gathering information about the dog’s personality." Dog walkers will be provided with a manual with important information about the dogs, a backpack with supplies and a map with recommended locations to visit. “We’ve seen a great demand for the program at our San Diego Campus since we started in April and are so excited to be able to expand it,” said Emily Scheerer, director of Operational Programs at the Humane Society. “It’s a win-win, because the dogs get some normalcy away from their habitats and are exposed to more potential adopters while out and about.” For more information, visit sdhumane.org.
