Ball State University breaks ground on boutique hotel, rooftop bar

MUNCIE, Ind. — Schahet Hotels is set to host a groundbreaking ceremony at Ball State University for a new boutique hotel that will debut in 2026.
The new Cantio Hotel is reported to be the first of its kind in the Muncie area, as it will be directly connected to the university's new Performing Arts Center. The lodging facility will have 97 guest rooms, restaurant options, a rooftop bar, and additional amenities.
"I am pleased to welcome The Cantio Hotel to our campus and our community,” BSU President Geoffrey S. Mearns said.

“This new hotel will provide a distinctive amenity for our visitors, and it will support our growing arts and cultural scene, enriching both our University and the revitalized Village, as well as the broader Muncie community."
The project is expected to create more than 120 jobs in Muncie, according to a press release from Dittoe Public Relations. Officials also estimate $8 million in local spending from hotel guests.

The event will occur on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and will feature a range of guest speakers, including:

Members of Ball State University’s Board of Trustees and other university officials
Members of Muncie’s City Council and other Muncie City officials
Chair of Ball State’s Department of Theatre and Dance, William Jenkins
The ceremony will occur at 1800 W. University Avenue, at the corner of McKinley and Ashland Avenues. Guest parking will be available in the McKinley Avenue Parking Garage, which is accessible from North Calvert Street.
