MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The nation’s largest off-stream reservoir - Merced County's San Luis Reservoir - is set to become even larger after a negotiated consensus was met for the B.F. Sisk Dam Raise and Reservoir Expansion Project. The San Luis and Delta-Mendota Water Authority says the reservoir has a current total capacity of around 2 million acre-feet of water with a dam crest 352 feet tall. The joint project will add 10 feet to the dam to create an additional 130,000 acre-feet of storage space in the reservoir. The Water Authority adds that the project will produce additional water supply for 2 million people, over 1 million acres of farmland, and 135,000 acres of Pacific Flyway wetlands and critical wildlife habitat. The Bureau of Reclamation signed the Record of Decision for the project on Oct. 20 and announced the consensus Wednesday.
