An Idaho state court is hearing arguments from both sides in Adkins v. State of Idaho, a lawsuit filed by the Center for Reproductive Rights. CBS2 reports that in September 2023, the Center for Reproductive Rights filed a lawsuit against Idaho, asking the court to clarify what qualifies under the “medical emergency” exceptions in the states’ abortion bans. The Center for Reproductive Rights says Idaho has one of the most restrictive total abortion bans in the country, with vague exceptions leaving doctors uncertain when they can provide abortion care and fearful they could face severe punishment for doing so, meaning pregnant people are forced to wait until they are near death to receive abortion care or flee the state. The trial at the Ada County District Court started on Tuesday, November 12th and is scheduled to end on Nov. 21.
