Workers demolish Chardon Burger King to make way for Chipotle
Nov 13, 2024
The walls have come crashing down at Chardon’s old Burger King, and Chipotle Mexican Grill is looking to take its place.
Demolition work recently took place at the closed 414 Water St. restaurant. Chardon Community Development Administrator Steven Yaney said that the city’s Burger King location closed in April 2023 due to the franchisee’s bankruptcy.
Chipotle presented plans for renovating the old Burger King to the city’s planning commission in June, according to meeting minutes. Yaney said that the restaurant chain later changed its plan and is now looking to build a new restaurant on the site. He expects that the company will request approval for its new plan at the commission’s Nov. 26 meeting.
He believes that the company plans to begin construction in the spring, though he added that more public details are set to be discussed at the commission meeting.
Chardon Planning Commission meetings start at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month, according to the city’s website. City records indicate that the meetings take place at Chardon City Hall, 111 Water St.

There are no Chipotle restaurants in Geauga County as of early November, according to the restaurant’s online store finder. It lists the closest Chipotle to Chardon as being at 7689 Crile Road in Concord Township.
Chipotle said in a recent financial report that it operated more than 3,600 restaurants around the world as of the end of September. The chain owns and operates all of its locations in North America and Europe, and the company’s management expects to open between 285 and 315 new restaurants in 2024 and between 315 and 345 new restaurants in 2025.
Burger King’s online store locator lists one remaining Geauga County location. That restaurant is at 15401 W. High St. in Middlefield.
