BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana State Police arrested a Louisiana State University student after an investigation into a death threat made against Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry. Jackson Pemberton, 21, of Baton Rouge, was charged with threatening a public official. A trooper was given a photo of a post from X, formerly known as Twitter. The post said, "I am going to kill you, @JeffLandry," according to the affidavit. LSP determined that the post was made on Tuesday, Nov. 12. As the investigation unfolded, they determined that the user who made the post was a student at LSU. Police found that Pemberton lived at an apartment complex on Burbank Drive. People protest Louisiana governor bringing live tiger to LSU vs. Alabama football game LSP located Pemberton at an apartment, and he reportedly told them that he posted on his X account about wanting to kill Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry. The Baton Rouge man "stated that he was upset with the governor's decision regarding the live tiger that was brought on the LSU football field this previous weekend," according to the affidavit. Pemberton said he disagrees with the governor's decisions but did not want to hurt Landry. He stated "that the post was made as a joke," LSP said. The Baton Rouge man was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Tuesday, Nov. 12. He remains in jail, and no bond has been set.
