Richland One school board and superintendent ‘mutually agree’ to split
Nov 12, 2024
Richland Co., SC (WOLO) — During a Richland One School Board meeting Tuesday night the Board of Commissioners mutually agreed to separate from current school superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon. No reason was given for the decision for the two to part ways after Witherspoon’s nearly 10 years as Superintendent.
The board agreed to extend his contract through June 30 2025. Witherspoon will however be paid as he initially negotiated for the additional 12 months which means he will be paid through June 2026. School Board Chairman Reverend Dr. Aaron Bishop gave a statement to the public after the board voted in favor of the split 7-0 decision.
Witherspoon responded to the announcement saying they’ve done some amazing things in his 9 years as Superintendent. He added that he served with humility and gratitude. No word on his next move.
