(KRON) –  Oakland Roots Soccer Club Interim Head Coach Gavin Glinton can finally ditch the “interim” of his title. The soccer club announced that Glinton has been promoted to full-time Head Coach ahead of the 2025 United Soccer League Championship season. Glinton was originally born in Turks and Caicos but grew up in Livermore. The new head coach called it an “honor” to coach for his hometown club.  The Oakland Roots VP of Soccer, Eric Yamamoto said, “[Glinton’s] deep connections to the East Bay and Northern California make him an ideal fit to bring out the best in our players and staff as we continue to build something special.” Warriors to honor Thompson’s return by giving away ‘Captain Klay’ hats Glinton took on the role of Interim Head Coach in the middle of last season.  “While 2024 didn’t end the way we envisioned, we've made big strides in creating the foundation and culture that will be necessary for long term success,” said Glinton. “With a full offseason and preseason ahead, I’m confident that 2025 will see us reach new milestones. We’ll come back stronger and ready to make an impact upon our return to Oakland.” Glinton is an MLS Cup champion himself, winning with the Los Angeles Galaxy.  Prior to returning to the Bay Area, Glinton was an assistant for New Mexico United.
