Extended forecast: Any record breaking snowfall events coming soon?
Nov 12, 2024
(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — With last week's snowstorm and the start of holiday travel beginning soon, the forecast is top of mind for many. So, let's look at the extended forecast.
First off, if you want to know anything weather-related, the FOX21 Storm Team posts about the weather in your area and gives you the latest updates on weather in your neighborhood on the FOX21 Weather App. In fact, Chief Meteorologist Matt Meister posted an article about how last week's storm broke some records and also included snow totals across town. You can check that article out here.
Now let's get into the forecast:
The rest of this week
We know that a storm system will come in the middle of the week, however, it is expected to not do much except bring snow to the ski resorts and potentially some flurries to places near the Palmer Divide and northern Teller County.
We are also monitoring a storm system for this weekend however, and as of Tuesday morning, Nov. 12, our forecast models are not in agreement, so the details still need to be ironed out. Stick with the FOX21 Storm Team as we continue to monitor both systems.
From next week to three to four weeks
The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) is the office that handles longer-range forecasts. It is important to note, that these forecasts are less set in stone and more a statement on how more or less likely the weather will be close to average.
Right now, the CPC says next week is more likely to be wetter than normal, but temperatures are supposed to be average. In order for a record-breaking snowstorm to exist, we need to have higher amounts of moisture and we need to have colder temperatures. So, according to the CPC's forecasts, those conditions are less likely.
So could it snow between now in the next three to four weeks? Yes, but will it be record-breaking? At this time, not so much.
