SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Families gathered at Miramar National Cemetery to honor their loved ones on Veterans Day.  "I'm very proud. Dad was always proud. He always reminded us," said Victoria Felipe, whose father Arturo Felipe died this past August. "He's first generation to come from the Philippines to the U.S. and he served 22 years (in the Navy)," she said.  Arturo served on the U.S. Mercy after retiring, according to Victoria. He did humanitarian aid on the ship. She says he felt proud the U.S. flag was on the ship as they went to Australia, Philippines and Bangladesh. Deals from restaurants, retailers for Veterans Day 2024 Karen and Sal Lopez drive to Miramar National Cemetery several times a month to remember and lay flowers down for their nephew, Sgt. Manuel Diaz, who passed away in January after a motorcycle accident.  Diaz joined the Marines as soon as he graduated from high school at 17 years old and he was stationed in Yuma, according to the Lopez family. "He was driven. He loved everything the Marine Corps stands for. He loved his country and the country loved him back," Karen Lopez said.
