Feeling a bit more like November into Tuesday
Nov 11, 2024
After a wet finish to the weekend with beneficial rains throughout the region, it was a beautiful Veterans Day across Central and Eastern Kentucky on Monday. Drier air moved into the commonwealth allowing for a return of plenty of sunshine as afternoon highs worked back into the mid-60s, which is slightly above average for this time of the year.
The quiet weather will continue into Tuesday but it will feel a little more like the heart of the fall season. A weakening boundary will drop into the Ohio Valley during the early morning hours bringing with it a reinforcing shot of cooler air. Winds will be out of the north-northeast as Canadian high pressure builds into the Great Lakes. So despite abundant sunshine across the area, afternoon highs should only reach the low to mid-50s which is much more in the neighborhood of where we should be heading into mid-November.
Our pattern of rain chances every few days looks to continue into the mid to late week as another storm system moves into the Ohio Valley. Much of Wednesday looks dry with some sunshine as afternoon highs jump back into the mid-60s thanks to winds shifting around to the south-southeast. The best window for rain looks to be Wednesday night and into Thursday as the front sweeps through the area. The system should be in and out in pretty short order but we could still see some decent rainfall totals with most locations tacking on around a half inch or so.
More tranquil weather is on the way for Friday and into the upcoming weekend as another area of high pressure builds into the region. Temperatures will slowly moderate through the period as highs climb from the upper 50s to end the week into the low 60s on Saturday. Conditions should be pleasant for round two of the high school football playoffs Friday night and for Kentucky returning home to take on Murray State at Kroger Field on Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm. Another system may bring a return of shower chances by late Sunday and into early next week but the timing is still in question there so we’ll keep an eye on it.
