MFD: Fire shuts down road, dump tank used to extinguish
Nov 13, 2024
MONROE COUNTY, Ind. — The Monroe Fire Protection District extinguished a structure fire on Tuesday that temporarily shut down a road and forced firefighters to utilize a dump tank.
MFD stated in a Facebook post that firefighters responded around 4:20 p.m. to a structure fire on Ketchum Road. There, MFD — assisted by the Marshall Township Fire Department and EMS, Ellettsville Fire Department, Monroe County Sheriff's Office and Duke Energy — discovered smoke emanating from the home.
They walked around the building and found a fire visible on the backside, coming out of the roof.

Per MFD, the home was located on a small lane, which made it difficult for larger fire vehicles to access. As a result, the road was temporarily shut down so firefighters could set up a dump tank for water shuttle operations.
The post added that a neighbor noticed the smoke and called 911. The homeowner was not in the residence during the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, MFD said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
