NC lake mansion destroyed by massive fire; crews from 4 counties respond, fire boats deployed

LAKE NORMAN, N.C. (WNCN) -- A North Carolina lakefront mansion was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning, according to fire officials.
Crews from four counties responded to the fire that was reported before daybreak at 658 Normandy Road, according to the Huntersville Fire Department.
The 5,500-square-foot home, valued at $1.5 million, is located on a cove on the Iredell County portion of Lake Norman, north of Charlotte.
Photos from the scene showed the large two-story home engulfed by flames. The house is located just west of Lake Norman Airpark near the Cornelius Creek area of the lake.

Heavy fire was coming from the attic of the home, requiring several fireboats on the lake to respond, according to Kevin Imm, who photographed the blaze.
The fire started around 5:15 a.m. and took more than three hours to get under control, Huntersville fire officials and Imm reported.

No one was injured in the blaze, which included responses from departments from Iredell, Catawba, Mecklenburg, and Lincoln counties.
Shepherds Fire-Rescue was the lead fire agency with help from Mooresville, Troutman, South Iredell, Lake Norman, and Sherrills Ford-Terrell in Catawba County.

Mooresville fire officials said they sent Mooresville Fire-Rescue Engine 2, Ladder 6, and Battalion Chief 1.
Other agencies involved included Davidson Fire in Mecklenburg County, Denver Fire Department in Lincoln County, Mount Mourne, Trinity, Cools Springs, Ebenezer, Wayside, West Iredell and Monticello.
