Capitol tree arrives in Pierre for annual event

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The tree for the Christmas at the Capitol arrived earlier this week in Pierre.
The Colorado Blue Spruce was donated by Deb Lutz of Mobridge, according to the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources post on its Facebook page.
Lutz's daughter Carrie planted it when she was in fourth grade 30 years ago. She received the sapling at an Arbor Day event at school.
Deb Lutz and her late husband visited the Capitol each year for the Christmas at the Capitol. He often said how wonderful it would be to have their daughter's tree as the main tree for the Christmas at the Capitol.
Discounts, free meals at restaurants for Veterans Day
The DANR said Stone Rock and Sand Inc. and the South Dakota Department of Transportation transported the tree to Pierre.
Christmas at the Capitol starts on Nov. 27 and continues through Dec. 26. According to the Christmas at the Capitol Facebook page, the opening lighting ceremony as at 7 p.m. CT on Nov. 26. After that the tree event area will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week including on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day through Dec. 26.
