Police are asking the public for help in tracking down a Salem man wanted on kidnapping charges. Javier Banuelos Munoz Jr., 44, is accused of first- and second-degree kidnapping related to several incidents of domestic violence, according to the Salem Police Department. Detectives have “exhausted all efforts” to find Banuelos Munoz, the agency said in a news release on Thursday, Nov. 7. The police statement provided no details about the crimes he is accused of, including when the incidents occurred. Police described him as a Hispanic man with black hair and brown eyes,  5-foot-8 with a medium build, and said he generally wears his hair shaved with a beard.  He also has various tattoos, including one on the right side of his neck that reads “Munoz” in script lettering. Banuelos Munoz has an additional pending charge of first-degree theft in Polk County Circuit Court. He also has an outstanding warrant for a parole violation, according to the police statement.  Banuelos Munoz was most recently sent to prison in April 2023 for escaping from a correctional facility in Curry County. State court records don’t show when he was released, but he was sentenced to 19 months and allowed to receive credit for time served.  Salem police asked anyone with information to call their tips line at 503-588-8477. The agency said anyone who sees him should call local police. “Do not approach him. He is considered a violent offender with potential access to firearms,” Salem police said.
