Metra trains back on move after pedestrian fatally struck on Northwest Side

Metra service is getting back to normal after a pedestrian was fatally hit by a train Friday morning on the Northwest Side.The person, whose age and gender wasn’t immediately known, was struck by the train around 6:15 a.m. between Melrose and School streets, a spokesperson with Metra said. Earlier, Union Pacific North inbound and outbound trains were halted near the Clybourn station, 2001 N. Ashland Ave., after the person was struck by outbound train #305, Metra posted on X, formally known as Twitter.

Few details were immediately available but the person struck was said to be trespassing, according to the Metra spokesperson. Inbound and outbound trains were on the move again as of 8:40 a.m., Metra posted on X. This is a developing story, check back for details.
