Massachusetts lawmakers on what might change after election
Nov 08, 2024
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Now two days after the election, many Americans are wondering how the results will impact them.
Trump gained ground in Massachusetts during election
Donald Trump secured the 270 electoral votes to become the 47th President of the United States and many US citizens and Massachusetts residents are now trying to understand how it will impact them.
"We're not going to change what we're doing in Massachusetts. You know we're going to continue to focus on making Massachusetts more affordable, more competitive, more equitable," said Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey.
Governor Healey said she is going to work to stay on the same path, moving forward since at this moment, they don't know what policies President-elect Donald Trump will implement, but she does have worries.
"My sincere hope is that what has been outlined in Project 2025 and that playbook does not come to pass. I mean there are some really really dangerous things there that have serious implications," said Governor Healey.
While lawmakers say they will continue to do what is best for residents of Massachusetts and western Massachusetts, others don't think this change will impact any progress already made.
"I don't think it's going to be good or bad. I think it's going to be fine I mean the federal government is going to do their things and the House and Senate are still going to be close so they're going to have to work for the betterment of the states," said State Representative Kelly Pease.
Congressman Richard Neal is confident in the laws and bills they have already passed, including the Infrastructure Bill and the Inflation Reduction Act.
"Many of the pieces of legislation that we passed were Herculean in terms of nature and quality. It's unlikely that they're going to be undone," said Neal.
While the Republicans succeeded in the Presidency, State Senator John Velis thinks the Democrat party needs to take a step back and as he said quote "do some serious soul searching."
"If you're not talking about those concerns people are going to gravitate towards the people that are. For the past eight years, we've spoken less and less about issues that I think are on a daily basis people are talking about in the community," said Velis.
State Representative Pease is looking for President-Elect Trump to loosen the burdens of regulations on businesses to help drive state economies.
