ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV) - A new sculpture outside a Bellin Health facility in Ashwaubenon honors a longtime doctor.
Dr. Mark Reinke passed away on Christmas Day in 2013 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57 years old.
Reinke joined the NEW ENT in 1997 where he distinguished himself as an ear, nose and throat surgeon. He was the medical staff president of Bellin Health and on the hospitals Board of Directors. He was also an Air Force veteran.
The sculpture in his honor sits in front of the Bellin Health Surgery and Specialty Center in Ashwaubenon. It's a pair of metal hands that weigh about 300 pounds each.

"The healing hands because it really is a metaphor for what Mark did in life," said Kathy Reinke Nemmers, Mark's wife.
After Mark's death, Kathy remarried to a man named Joe Nemmers whose spouse also passed away. Kathy and Joe both have tried to do things to honor and remember their spouses and came up with the idea for the sculpture to honor Mark.
They enlisted De Pere based artist David Windey to help them out with the project. He told Local 5 News that it was an honor to be able to help with a project that had so much meaning to the family.
Windey said he used pictures of Mark's daughters' hands to help him craft the sculpture. He said he couldn't completely go off the pictures because female and male hands are different. It took a lot of work, but he said it was more than worth it at the end.

"I've heard already that it's a touching and emotional piece and it inspires them, I guess that is all that I can ask for," said Windey.
"When patients see it we want them to have a sense of hope, when providers see it we want them to rise to the standard of care that Mark always provided," said Joe Nemmers.
On Thursday evening, there was a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony to celebrate the sculpture. Many of Mark's family and friends showed up to honor him including his father, wife, and kids.
