FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Classes were canceled on Thursday at Spencer Borden Elementary School in Fall River after a boiler room fire on Wednesday.
The Fall River Fire Department said crews were called to the school at 2:24 p.m. and were able to knock down the fire within about 15 minutes.

Despite the fire being extinguished, there was still heavy smoke permeating the school.
All students at the school were evacuated safely and there were no reported injuries.
Fall River Public Schools said the district is working with its city partners to make sure the building is clean and safe before classes resume.
The school said it does not anticipate needing to close school on Friday, too. Students' belongings have been kept safe until the children return.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
