BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- Zoo Lights, a festive holiday tradition with Christmas lights at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo, returns at the end of November. Zoo Lights will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. from Nov. 29 to Dec. 30. The event will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Admission to Zoo Lights ranges anywhere from free to $5 depending on your age and membership status. The Baton Rouge Zoo said admission will be $5 for adults and teens, $4 for seniors, $3 for children between the ages of 2 and 12, $3 for members and free for children who are 1 and under. The zoo is offering a little extra on opening day Nov. 29. The first 200 guests will get a “hug” the Coca-Cola Polar Bear will receive a free 12-ounce can of Coca-Cola. Families can get photos with Santa Claus during Zoo Lights on Fridays and Saturdays at the Otter Cabin. Part of the zoo's holiday tradition is hosting a food drive with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. This year's goal is to collect 8,000 pounds in food donations. Officials from the zoo said people who bring a non-perishable food item to donate will get a 50% discount on regular admission. Guests will be able to enjoy the Flamingo Café, gift shop, some trail access, and limited evening viewing of some animals, according to the zoo. The train will not be operational during Zoo Lights.
