TRI-CITIES, Va. (WRIC) -- Two teens were taken into custody after a traffic stop in Prince George County turned into a police chase involving Virginia State Police and other local agencies.
On the morning of Thursday, Nov. 7, Prince George County Police attempted to carry out a traffic stop on a car for reckless driving, but the driver refused to stop.
According to state police, the suspect continued driving into Hopewell and another attempted traffic stop was initiated by Hopewell Police -- eventually starting a pursuit.
The police pursuit continued into Petersburg, where Virginia State Police troopers were asked to provide assistance once the suspect entered the area.
State police said that, during the pursuit, law enforcement discovered that the car had been reported stolen.
The police pursuit ended when the suspect started heading the wrong way down Crater Road and hit the front bumper of a state police car that was blocking traffic. The trooper was not injured.
K9 Units were used to bring the 14-year-old female driver into custody. She was also taken to a nearby hospital to be checked for injuries. Police confirmed the driver was also wanted on prior auto theft charges in Petersburg.
In addition, a 16-year-old passenger was taken into custody as well, according to police.
