PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Now that the dust has settled after Election Day, voters across Rhode Island are weighing in on the outcome.
Following a contentious campaign for Republicans and Democrats alike, Donald Trump was declared the winner of the presidential race early Wednesday morning.
While his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris won both Rhode Island and Massachusetts, Trump wasn't far behind, garnering 42.3% of the vote in Rhode Island and 36.4% in Massachusetts.
Joy. Fear. Relief. Devastation. All were emotions expressed by Americans after learning the outcome of the race.

Trump's supporters were quick to rejoice his victory.
"I woke up this morning and was just like, 'thank God,'" Burrillville resident Lisha Hall said. "We've just had a lot of challenges the last four years that we didn't have previously when we had Trump in office. Things were just nicer."
North Smithfield resident Ronald Roy is thrilled that Trump will be returning to the Oval Office this January.
"It's going to be beautiful again, I'm telling you," Roy said. "He's going to make America great again. You all have to give him a chance."

Harris' supporters, meanwhile, couldn't help but feel defeated.
"Honestly, I cried," Rhode Island School of Design student Zohar Kennard said. "It wasn't great."
Though she's disappointed in the country, Kennard said she will try to remain hopeful for the future.
"My main concerns are probably woman's rights and the mass deportation that's been promised," Kennard said. "Those two issues are weighing heavy right now."
Kennard emphasized that there is much work to be done over the next four years.
Most of Harris' local supporters told 12 News that, while they do not agree with the outcome, they will respect the results.
"I just think that as a country we objectively made the wrong choice," Brown University student Molly Leubner said.
