High Point neighbors concerned over yard waste pickup changes

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) -- How frequently yard waste gets picked up in High Point is going to change.
High Point Public Services Director Robby Stone says the city is currently evaluating what services they provide.
"We're currently undergoing a solid waste study ... Part of that study is what we're providing, what services we need to provide and what services we need to scale back some," Stone said.
And the services Stone is referring to are yard waste and bulk collection. One of the reasons for the change is staffing shortages.
"We have ongoing efforts for staffing. Our HR departments are working to advertise all vacant positions," Stone said.
Stone says yard waste and bulk collection will now operate on an alternating bi-weekly schedule instead of weekly.
The new schedule will begin Monday. It's a change High Point homeowner Justyn Owen already isn't a fan of.
"If it's going to be every two weeks. It's going to be pretty bad," Owen said. "Everywhere you go, you see them overflowing. It's already like that. It's getting picked up every week, and some people have multiple cans already."
Owen's neighbor Juan Cantu is worried his driveway will look more cluttered.
"That's going to be adding up. That's how I feel," Cantu said. "That usually happens a lot. A lot of people leave stuff ... and nobody picks up stuff a lot of times."
While neighbors have concerns about the new schedule, Stone says this will not disrupt loose leaf collection.
Vacuum services will remain.
Stone says the collection schedule is subject to change.
