Results of the Richland County Penny Sales Tax, and county sheriff’s election

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The future of the Penny Sales Tax was on the ballot and voters approved it.
At last check, more than 61% voted in favor of the tax referendum.
The $4.5 billion Penny Sales Tax will be used for transportation efforts in the Midlands including road improvement projects as well as the COMET.
And Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott will keep his seat.
As of Wednesday morning, Sheriff Lott had 82% of the vote while his opponent Republican Jim Walker had 17%.
Lott has been in office since 1996.
